The Educational Strategies of the Black middle classes.
Race and class are key dimensions in contemporary education debates but are rarely considered in tandem. A common assumption about Black Caribbean families is that they are uniformly disadvantaged and their children underachieve at school. Although recent research has explored the educational strategies of white middle class (WMC) families, Black families traditionally have been been undifferentiated by social class and uncritically positioned as occupying working class locations.
This Symposium offers a new perspective to these debates by adopting an intersectional approach to explore
