Overview of symposium
This symposium consists of three papers drawn from three different, but related, research projects that deal with the complexity of being a woman working in Higher Education in the English setting in terms of social justice issues. The intention in this collection of papers is to take a close look at the situated experiences of three specific groups of women academics; those who are senior managers; women of the professoriate and senior women academics who are coming up to/have just retired.
The papers to be presented address some of the under-explored and under-theorised aspects of gender work in the UK academy. The intention is to not to essentialise the experiences of all women academics, nor is it to claim any capacity for generalisation from these three sets of
